Monsoon long-staple cotton cultivation in Pwintbyu Township meets its target
Pwintbyu 20 October
Pwintbyu Township has achieved its target for monsoon long-staple cotton cultivation, according to the Township Department of Agriculture.
The township estimated to cultivate 5,271 acres of long-staple cotton during the monsoon season. Cultivation began in June and has now reached hundred percent of the target.
“This monsoon season, Pwintbyu Township targeted 5,271 acres of long-staple cotton and cultivation is now complete. Now the officials are conducting awareness campaigns to achieve the targeted high-yield” said an official from the township department.
The Department of Agriculture is conducting agricultural awareness campaigns for long-staple cotton farmers on cultivating high-quality cotton, applying systematic agricultural practices, preventing pests and diseases and using inputs systematically.
Farmers mostly cultivate the long-staple cotton varieties such as Shwetaung-8 and Shwetaung-10. Higher yield and better quality will ensure local consumption and selling the surplus will generate more income. Therefore, long-staple cotton cultivation should be further expanded, according to an official.
