Residents evacuated as Ma Mya Dam embankment subsides
THE embankment of Mya Mya Dam in Hmyinwataung
Village-tract, Myanaung Township, Ayeyawady Region, has reportedly subsided,
prompting the evacuation of residents from nearby flood-vulnerable areas,
including Hmyinwataung, Letpankwin and Sanywagyi village-tracts. Four relief
camps have been opened to accommodate evacuees and provide food and essential
supplies.
Under the supervision of the Myanaung
District and Township Management and Administration Committees, local Tatmadaw
personnel, departmental officials and village-tract administrators are coordinating
evacuation efforts, issuing warnings and assisting residents, including
elderly people from Yawkwin Village, to reach safety.
Water is being discharged through the
emergency spillway, and authorities are continuing to warn residents along
the downstream watercourse and arrange food supplies for evacuees. No
casualties or injuries involving people or livestock have been reported. —
